Graphic Design History

Degree-seeking students wanting to take GDS 131 (Graphic Design History) will need to register for GDS 102 instead. This is the same course, but with a new course number (we had to change the course number because this is now a transfer course). GDS 102 will be meet on Fridays from 2-5pm this spring.

Additional Open Labs

Juanita Gammon Scholarship

The Parkland Foundation has many scholarships available including the Juanita Gammon Graphic Design Scholarship. To qualify, you must be (1) a degree seeking student in graphic design career program (AAS) and have a sophomore standing, (2) a full-time student enrolled in two graphic design courses with a total of at least 12 credit hours, (3) and have a 3.0 GPA. A portfolio review and two letters of recommendation will also be required. A $350 award will be awarded for the spring semester. Application deadline is December 11. Students should go to http://www.parkland.edu/parklandconnection, login to the Parkland Connection, then click on “Parkland Scholarship Search.” The search engine will automatically select scholarships that you may be eligible to apply for.

Access Success Lecture Series

On Wednesday, November 4th from 1-2 p.m. in room C118 Parkland will begin the first of a series of lectures that will expose our students and staff to movers and shakers here in our own community. The mystery speaker shown in the posters around campus is Rick Stevens, CEO of Horizon Hobby. Rick will pass along what he has learned in building a company from nothing to a successful enterprise that employs nearly 700 people and sells products in more than 50 countries around the world. Horizon Hobby offers a wide variety of job opportunities that many students might be interested in pursuing (and it is right here in Champaign!). This is a rare opportunity for students/faculty to have access to CEO of a large company. Bring your questions and learn! If you attend the lecture you will be eligible to win a radio controlled truck or a radio controlled helicopter donated to Parkland from Horizon Hobby. This lecture is sponsored by the VP of Academic Services, Dean of Academic Services, and Dean of Career Programs.

Spring Class Registration

Continuing degree-seeking students have the privilege of priority registration for spring classes. Depending on the number of credit hours earned, you may reserve your spring classes between November 3-6. Open registration starts November 9, so don’t delay as many classes fill quickly.
