Late breaking news: Negativland in Champaign

October 30, 2006

Negativeland is a “band” that’s been described as “an unhealthy mix of John Cage, Lenny Bruce, Pink Floyd, Bruce Connor, Firesign Theatre, Abbie Hoffman, Robert Rauschenberg, surrealist performance art, and your high school science teacher.” Credited for coining the phrase “culture jamming,” Negativland creates CDs, fine art, video, books, radio, media hoaxes and live performances using sound, images and text “stolen” from corporately-owned mass culture. Using low-tech approaches whenever possible, Negativland makes art “about everything we aren’t supposed to notice.” They will be making an appearance at Open Source Art in downtown Champaign on Friday, November 3 at 7pm. Watch the Open Source web site for for details.
